Purpose of a title sequence

The purpose of a title sequence is used to display the cast crew who are involved in the movie making and in some sequences used to credit certain actors. Its also used to the add a sense of mystery and catch the attention of the viewers.

Title sequences display and credit the crew cast for their involvement. Title sequences are presented in a certain way to show off the big actors that are featuring in the movie. It used to hype the movie and get the viewers excited. Its all to sustain the viewers till the end of the movie . For example in
Sherlock homes, they make it clear that they have a big actor featuring in Robert Downey Jr.
Another use of a title sequence is to establish the genre of the movie. Film productions like to add mystery and excitement through the title sequence by using music. For example in the show American horror story, they use symbolic codes, colour schemes, technical codes and editing effects to promote the genre.
