The most successful genres at the UK box office was Animation, Action and Comedy.
The 3 least successful genres at UK box office was Documentary, Romance and War.
The genre with the most film releases was Comedy with 153 films made in 2013-14.
There was 33 Animated movies made with 47 action movies made.
This information tells me that comedy made the most films, but it didn't technically make the most gross. It also told me that Animation had the larger audience as it released the least of the top 3 but still made the most gross.
Audience- Chapter 15
The age group with the largest proportion of cinema admissions was 15-24 with admissions peaking to up to 35%.
The comedy film with the most success with this age group was The Hangover Part 3.
The film which was most popular to the over 50's was Quartet which was a Comedy,Drama movie,
The Genres which was most popular with men was thriller, action and comedy movies. For example men enjoyed movies such as Django Unchained, Capitan Phillips and Kick-Ass 2.
The genres which was most popular with women were Animation, Documentary and Musical. Women enjoyed movies such a One Direction This Is Us, Frozen and Les Miserable's.
UK films appealed to a female audiences in 2013 but in 2012 appealed to an above average age male audience.
The 3 films which were most popular with the age group of 7-14 was Wreck It Ralph, Despicable Me 2 and Monster University. This tells us that this age group prefers the genre of animation.
These animated movies were popular with the age group of 35-44 as they are the parent and careers of the children and have to accompany their children to the cinemas. This means that animation has a larger audience and thus having higher gross.
The three movies which were popular with the age group of 25-34 were Django Unchained, Fast and Furious 6 and Rush.
The films which were most popular with middle class audiences were Rush and Oz the Great and Powerful.
The difference between the popular films in London and Scotland is that people in London liked action and western movies such as Fast and Furious and Django while people in Scotland liked the genre of Sci- Fi and Comedy and liked watching movies such as Star Wars and Sunshine on Leith which have home grown characters and locations which scot-landers enjoy.
