RESEARCH-BP14 Genre Conventions

Genre Conventions

Crime-
There are multiple genre convention in the genre of crime. Usually in crime there are many actors that are almost genre tropes of this particular genre. For example Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are genre tropes of crime as they have starred in multiple classic movies of this genre such as 'Scarface' and 'taxi driver'. This has proven to be right as each action movie they star in is most likely going to be a crime. A few more conventions of this genre that we have seen in the film opening are men with suits, guns and alcohol which are all generic signifiers of this genre.

Action-

There are also a variety of genre tropes for action movies that I have seen in the opening title sequence. There are multiple actors such as Vin Diesel and Sylvester Stallone which are male actor who appear frequently in action based movies. Other Generic signifiers that I have seen are usually thrilling and eye catching scenes such as gun shots, flying people and car chase scenes. Most action based movies start of with on of these clichés which is basic but also very effective.

Mystery-
This genre doesn't have many actors that are sorely based or known for there movies in the mystery genre. Even though this is true, mystery still has many genre tropes in the beginning of its title sequences. It usually contains a very ominous background, weird and unusual occurrences and jaw dropping moments. In the movie 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' there was a sort of platinum element which cover the body of this human however it was baffling and it was hard to understand the first time so you have to watch it carefully, multiple times.
